Default Chat window improvements

Just some ideas of mine that I think would make character interaction in towns a LOT easier and less annoying, and cut down on spam.

The first and urgent thing that needs to be done is a better trade window. There's already an alright one that no one uses, but it needs to be a lot better and compulsory...

Like an additional window that you can open up in towns, and people start a thread almost. When you open the window, you see a list, divided into sections like Buying, Selling, Trading, Services etc. Then under there is a list of the names of the people and what they're buying or whatever, and maybe a price. If you're interested, you click on it, and it opens up a chat room kinda where people can say things like how much is it? or where can I find you? negotiating or any other questions, and can be used for all trading purposes.

That way, we don't have 100 people going
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!
selling minipet!!!!!!!!!!

and people can actually TALK to each other in towns like Lions Arch and Kaineng.

Another thing which I think would be cool, but not as necessary, would be a better whisper system, where you can open a private chat window with a person. I find that if a lot of stuff is going on in the normal chat then it's hard to keep track of what a certain person is saying.

Maybe you can have more than one person in the same chat room also.. I dno.

But atm the chat is a wreck. They've started a minor fixing of it with the search window, but it needs to be improved IMO

They need an Auction House in game, and sadly the Search isn't as popular as expected with Trading. People still spam the Local chat. A chatroom (like guild/team chat but for non-guild/team members) would be a wonderful addition as well.

And an individual window for Whispers would be great also, because like stated above, in LA, Kaineng, Droks, etc if you're watching the Trade channel, you can lose Whispers easily...

well. i doubt it'd "work" most people don't give a rats ass what channel they are talking in, just as now where they are announcing their trades in general. so it would work as a chat room, but not as a spam reliever.
its a good idea for interacting with other people though, i like it in that aspect

now to stop spam, here's a suggestion
make it completely impossible to bypass the spam filter. there is no reason to ever have to repeat the same message more than once.
currently there is a spam filter, and it will suppress your message if you repeat it. however all the people in <insert major city here> D1 still manage to get through it, repeatedly. i don't know how they do it.

the chat in those districts is not a chat anymore, it is impossible to have any kind of conversation, most of the time the chat goes past too quickly to even read what people are saying.

Yeah, people won't really be using that little window.
Also I have suggested a IM window, so have many others. They got a No.

Make it compulsory to use the trade window.

The reason people spam the chat is because that's where people LOOK to buy and sell. If everyone is looking in this new chat window, then everyone will want to go up there.

@Frazzy:
The Search Window, as I said, is a good start, but doesn't work because it needs a better, easier design, not as cluttered, and needs an individual chat window, so that everyone will start using it.

At least there should be penalties for using the General for trade.
Let people report that and muting the character for a week, and they'll stop using the wrong channel.

I was in Pre ascalon the other day and because nobody had anything to sell there were real, actual conversations going on! It was great, I got to know a couple of people through it. I NEVER use normal chat to advertise sales, so I don't think others should. Sells, buys or clan recruitment should all be done elsewhere.

/signed i think your idea sound very cool. The thing is to stop ppl from still just spamming the chat. And i think to stop that completly the whole system of trading needs a refit soyou can ONLY use the channel for a trade so anyone who just isnt intrested in anything can have peace and those who are get a more conveinent system. Thoughts?

I think as for trade goes a-net has no option but to create an auction house... so wont comment on that.

As for social interaction a-net has been a complete disaster since so anything to improve on this field is welcome.

But first of all i would like to insist on the need on a way easy identify the person we are talking to... which seems to b a problem ... like a name associated with the account to apear on the chat would solv it...

As for independent chat rooms i will have to agree on that... great idea

Well I only like muting people when I don't want to see them spamming. So Mute so and so. Not to like "ban" him from chatting...
